Narrative Change
We believe art, culture, and storytelling, and media are means of imagining a better world and essential tools in articulating and realizing visions of freedom and justice.
Storytelling has the power to reshape perceptions, spark empathy, and drive social progress.
It shapes how we see the world — and each other. At Manifest Freedom, we believe narrative change is essential to dismantling the deeply rooted myths that sustain mass incarceration and deny the full humanity of those most impacted.
We use a range of communication tools — from social media and awareness campaigns to public speaking and cultural initiatives — to shift public perception. We engage directly with impacted communities in the creation and sharing of stories to ensure narratives are reflective of lived experience. Our work has included book clubs inside prisons where we create space for critical dialogue and growth, in-prison speaker series that bring formerly incarcerated individuals back inside to share their journeys and offer hope, and strategic support for directly impacted artists whose creative work brings visibility to issues too often overlooked. Narrative change, at its core, is about shifting culture by challenging long-held assumptions and expanding public understanding.
Through our Manifest Freedom dinner series, we convene artists, directly impacted individuals, policy makers, and thought leaders for intimate conversations that bridge art and action. By celebrating creativity and truth-telling, we catalyze meaningful solutions to address mass incarceration and foster a just society.
Manifest Freedom Dinner
As we work to manifest freedom, we continue to celebrate the world-changing influence of justice-impacted people when they are placed in environments where they are able to not merely survive, but thrive.
